The head of Danske Bank has resigned after scandal with money laundering — Rambler News Service


The chief executive officer of Danske Bank Thomas F. Borgen has announced to the board of directors of bank the resignation because of scandal with money laundering in Estonian "subsidiary" of credit institution. The press service of Danske Bank has reported about it. "Thomas F. Borgen, the chief executive officer of Danske Bank, has told the board of directors today that he wants to leave the position in bank. The decision has been announced in connection with today's announcement of results of investigation in Estonia", - it is said in the statement. According to Borgen, he regrets that the bank hasn't coped with responsibility conferred on him in connection with possible money laundering in the Estonian branch of the organization. The external legal bureau has come to a conclusion that the chief executive officer of Danske Bank carried out the duties properly. However Borgen has all the same decided that resignation will be the best outcome for all. The chairman of the board of directors of Danske Bank Ole Anderson has said that Borgen has made huge efforts that the credit institution developed. Now, according to Anderson, the bank takes stronger position in the market. Borgen will continue to work in the organization up to appointment of the new chief executive officer. At the end of July, 2018 Reuters has reported the investigation of participation of Danske Bank in money laundering initiated in Estonia through the local branch of the bank. At the beginning of September the FT edition has found out that citizens of the Russian Federation and other former republics of the USSR have transferred through "subsidiary" of Danske Bank in Estonia about $30 billion.
